There are so many ways to use a few minutes… and most importantly: there are so many places that need it.

Since years I use my energy to collect rubbish on holiday. If it’s sunny you can tan while doing this and you are alone with yourself and your thoughts.

You switch off from everything, because all that counts is seeing what doesn’t belong there. It can be quite meditative. The result makes you feel happy and you can dispose of the rubbish safely through local systems.

While collecting I thought about how I could increase my small impact. Other people might already be doing the same thing or be encouraged to do so. If I could persuade more people to collect just one sack or bag and commit just a few minutes rather than doing nothing at all? Imagine how little it would take to have an impact by visualizing the amount of rubbish collected if hundreds or thousands followed the fun. Whether it’s on the beach , during a mountain hike, while walking the dog every day, jogging or diving in the ocean.

Every full bag or sack, every meter without rubbish and plastic improves the place you are in.

Psychological experiments prove that seeing litter lowers people’s inhibitions about leaving their litter as well. If you turn the experiment around, nature without rubbish is likely to ensure that none ends up there.

You rarely meet the people who litter the environment with bottles and plastic. But they will see you while collecting – and their guilty conscience might make them think twice about littering in future.

So, it’s actually simple, you set up a hub where other collectors meet, which unites people who enjoy it and are proud of their small work and want to share their own small joy. Because shared joy is always double joy!

COLLECTABAG only claims to have an impact within the scope of possibilities, and since there is always the possibility to have an impact – go out and collect a bag!

The site runs under my company address for legal and financial support reasons. Still, I would like to name all those who support my idea here, as well as those whose own approach I consider worthy of support. There are a multitude of environmentally improving ideas. Be it the development of more sustainable materials, marine litter related activities, innovative recycling start-ups, upcycling camps, be it lone wolves or large international organisations: networking and mutual support makes every idea, no matter how small, bigger and bigger!
